Full,Beautiful Autumn Moon! Fall Equinox is almost here!
Had an Escape Day to the mountains- first time since spring. It’s been 90-ish this week- so the wonderful cool clean air of low 80’s in the mtns. was more than appreciated. Chris and Leo had taken Kayla and Leo’s nephews up to Frenchman’s Lake camping for the weekend- so we decided to drive up, surprise them and relax a bit ourselves today. . First we had a late breakfast with Jay. It’s less than an hour from here. Chris had also borrowed a boat from a friend- so they could fish out on the lake- besides from just the shore.
After we got there- I sent the guys off in the boat and stayed onshore with the kids- Alex 7, Kayla 6 and Angelo 5. Before we were All set up to fish, Alex had his line in and within 5 minutes had caught a 16-17 inch rainbow trout. We had no net, no stringer, no basket (they were all on the boat)- and the line on those kiddy poles is REAL fine. So I had him reel it in and as it got close to shore- grabbed hold of the line and helped him haul it in- before the line broke. Then went up- dumped supplies out of a storage box- and filled it with water to keep the fish in (and hopefully alive) until the guys got back. We caught no more- but it was Alexis’ first and was he a proud rooster! After a couple more hours of broken lines , tangled poles and lost hooks- we ran out of equipment so we headed back up the hill to camp- fish in box in tow.
The kids then were indians in the woods, while I rested my weary back.
The kids were pretty good the whole time, just being kids. Kayla feeding worms and bait to the fish in the water - by hand, Angelo trying to pick up yellow jackets and getting stung on the finger(after I warned him), and Alex running through hooks on all 3 rods faster than I could restring them. It was Fun!
I had forgotten how much energy they use- It’s been awhile since I was a scout leader- but it was a good relaxing day- all in all.
And Alex had the catch of the day! The Only catch! Chris took the boys and I out on the boat for a quick ride after they came back , while Kayla kept her Pop-pop company.
We need to do this more often- somehow just ...Take the time, It’s SO good for the soul.
Home to a Beautiful Sunset- and what a good Day!
Enjoy the Equinox on Monday- and the beautiful Fall to come.
