Got a phone call at work from Cookie(head nurse practitioner) at PP. Appears Reno Diagnostic sent the results from my tests over to her and she felt the Need to call me.
She was Very caring and Strongly Urged I get a biopsy. Preferably the incisive type. Reassured me it didn’t hurt, etc. I Tried to explain my allegies and veiws on the subject, but she felt it was Urgent I get a biopsy.
Ding- ding ding- hairs up on neck.
I thanked her and told her I needed to think about it.
She told me there were Many sources for funding- gave me the names of a few. The Women’s Health Connection here in Nevada, The American BreastCancer Assoc. , etc.
She asked me to at least let know of my decision, so they could keep track of me. And I could pick up a copy of the report anytime.
I told her they said they would send me one. She reminded me it was a holiday weekend (Vet’s Day) so it might take a day or 2 more to get it.
I thanked her again ,and Again she Urged me NOT to ignore this, and to Get a Biopsy.
It is good to know there are Concerned, Caring people out there. Even though I know they can only go so far in what they are allowed to say.
I called Kay Schmidt tonight, Jim’s wife(Mother Stanton’s cousin) They are close to 80 now. She broke her hip at the Balloon Festival in Sept. and is now all clear and walking.
Jim has pancreatic and liver cancer. When they opened him a couple months back for the pancreatic cancer they checked the liver, closed him up and sent him home.
She said he is unbelievable, and has refused all treatments. Is doing his walking, etc. Tough old German!!!
I remember that Kay had had a masectomy many years ago, plus was a practising nurse up until just a few years ago.
They had told her at the time of her surgery- it was caused by the estrogen replacements they had given her earlier in life.
She told me how she found her lump- by accident as I had. And since she worked for a hospital, got it checked the next day and was operated on the next day- into the lymph glands also. And has had no trouble since.
I told her why I was asking and after I told her all they said, in exact terms, she Strongly pushed for a biopsy.
When I told her the rapidness of this past week and the urgency they were pushing with, she TOLD me to get a Biopsy, Now! (hairs on neck up)
When I asked why they wouldn’t answer my questions, she reminded me- in this age of sue, sue, sue?
I asked her for the other physical feelings, she told me extreme tiredness (check), loss of appetite(checkk), and lose of weight- (not yet)
I told her I had had the first 2 for several months,if I am too tired to take care of my garden...she said- yes... and the constant looking for new bras that didn’t irritate the area , and so far as the weight loss? My face looks like a hag, long lines under my eyes, and a very drawn look.
She again pushed for the biopsy and reassured me it wouldn’t hurt( so I should care about that or loosing a breast?- their medicines would kill me) asked me to stay in touch.
I told Frank about conversation- was glad how Jim and her were doing, and got a reaction same as mine from Kay’s urgency.
