Decided to get this done before I got on sewing machines. The oyster run to Fairfield was fun. Kayla had a good time, and we again stopped for strawberries. We also stopped at a park on a River- so she really got to stretch her legs, hug some trees and look for Dinosaur bones :).
Mother’s Day we had Chris, his friend Steve and his mom, Noah and Amber, plus Dede and Rob from across the street over. It was Really a fun afternoon! Chris did the primary BBQ-ing of the oysters and everyone else just meandered around, had some beers or margaritas, nibbled whenever they felt like it and relaxed. Later in the eve, Frank got out the guitar- and more fun was had. A good Mother’s Day for all involved.
Then it was bust butt week to get caught up in shop , so to be able to fly out to Maine on Thursday the 16th. It was a decent flight- one short stop in Chicago(rude people there).
Then Nicci picked me up in Boston, and during our over 2 hour drive to Yarmouth ME., we got some good Mom and Nicci time in. And 2 little excited girls to greet me when we got home! I did manage to get outfits done for the girls- so they were happy! Daria is going to be in a play this week- so we rehersed her lines alot! Both girls are very well spoken and extremely intelligent! And of course- gorgeous! Each in her special way!! Daria with her dark hair- and those magnificent light ”Nicci Eyes”. Lea has marvelous mixed eyes and a different ,more intense personality. They were fun to watch.
It was sunny and decent weather on Friday, so we did some sightseeing, went to Old Orchard Beach(where Frank and I spent a summer 13 years ago), and to Fort Williams- right on the ocean- where Nicci and Greg were married. Beautiful place!!! And the light house there is SO picturesque!!! Nicci cooked a Fabulous chicken-broccoli cassarole- that I brought home the recipe to- and everyone here loves it too! Good Job,Nic!!
Poor Grads- it was raining cats and dogs all day Saturday. And the gym for the college was small- so while filing in, the Grads had to stand out in rain for over 20 min. Bad hair days for all concerned! But Nicci looked so proud in her black robe with the gold sash and tassel. Only 30 of over 350 students had earned the honor. I don’t know who was prouder of her- her husband or her accumulative parents! The girls were so good! It was a long time for 2 little ones to sit still on hard bleachers- but they did real good! The college served a reception for all, and it was nice. Afterwards- due to come down and weather- we just kicked back at the apartment and I made chili for dinner. Would liked to have party for Nicci, but circumstances were not good for that- and she was going to have one with Brenda her sister, as she graduated from H.S. this past weekend.
Everyone’s allergies there were going crazy- my sinus’ from the constant humidity were killing me. Apparently later in the week Greg ended up with pneumonia. A fairly good trip home, and happy face of Frank and critters to meet me.
I have really been clogged and rundown this past week- it is finally starting to break now. I know it is mostly allergies-( this has been a little damper year- so the weeds are going crazy around here. Nice to have green- but watch out in fire season! ) Anyway- I think when I got wet and cold at Graduation-and stayed that way for a few hours, plus being rundown- I also developed a cold. But it’s mostly gone now.
Sat. Frank threw me into the car early in the AM, without telling me where we were going- just that I needed a break. So we stopped in Fernley(30 some miles east of Reno),boy has it grown since we lived there 19 years ago, had some breakfast. Then headed out to the North. We ended up in Gerlach, NV. Home of the Black Rock Desert and Playa. I had never been there and this is also where they hold the Burning Man Festival every summer. What an expanse of flats!!! Awe inspiring! He also surprised me by going to a Pottery Shop in the middle of all this. Planet X Pottery. Beautiful works!!
Couldn’t afford the really beautiful painted things, but got a couple of small plainer and functional pieces. We stopped at Pyamid Lake on the way home(after stopping along side “Smoky Creek Road”- a few times to check out flowers), but the lake was so jammed but folks there for Memorial Day- we didn’t bother to go down to the water. It is a special spiritual place for me, and really enjoy it when it is quiet! Another day we’ll go again.
We BBQ’d some ribs on Sunday- had some of same crowd from Mother’s day over- had a quiet but good time. Kayla spent time both then and Monday spelling out words to make signs for “Girls Rule”For being in Kindergarten she did real well!
Frank has been slowly and steadily losing weight- his surgery is next week. He did manage to get in this AM about his eyes- but they said cataracts aren’t bad enough to operate on yet( some VA guidelines they have to go by)- but issued a prescription for some new glasses. His lenses are SO badly scratched.
I just keep truckin’, not much else I can do- but most generally feel good, So that’s all one can ask.
Considering I am almost 53, I quess I should be a tad slower than 10 years ago, eh?
