July 12, 2002 Well Kayla was just tickled pink- and got right in there with the petting and watching them. Their names are - for the part toggenberg- Shyly, and the part alpine is Alexa. So I think Chris had a good idea. She can’t wait until they are big enough to come out into yard with her- and follow her around. And wants to know when we can milk them! It was 108 again today. Ok for Vegas- they ‘re used to it. It was still 91 at 11:00 last night according to news. It’s 100 in my shop right now- and with no airconditioning /swampcooler - the trailer is a cooker. But we use fans and mop down with wet rags. We survived Las Vegas with higher heats and less equipment. I worry about the critters though- especially the babies. But they head into Barn for shade and I go out every couple of hours and hose down their yard and side of barn- to try to cool it a bit. No sense putting a sprinkler out there as goats aren’t real fond of water on them, but I manage to get a bit of mist on them. Kasha even with her heavy white coat doesn’t particularly like being sprayed. She just heads for shade and sleeps. After all she’s awake most of the night guarding! |
