Busy past few days! As always a holiday weekend is busy- especially 4 day ones! Chris came out and we did alot around here- and long about Sat. we decided that couple of Baby Doe Goats would make a good B-Day present For Kayla (today)! So most of Sat. and Sun was spent getting a big pen ready on the back of the Barn with access to a stable.
On Sunday we went and got them. Unfortunately, we ended up with Buckos- so Monday Eve went and traded them for Girlie -girls. After I had DeDe and Rob come down and verify what I thought. Then a walk across the street to see what proper Girls look like. I never saw little ones- ony full grown ones and wasn’t quite for sure- and thought the breeder knew- and trusted her. But she was real tired on Sun. and admitted she didn’t look close enough and she primarilly feeds and milks- her hubby usually handles this part- but he wasn’t home.
Kasha has Finally found her niche in life- what she was bred for- guarding those babies(they are small- only a couple of months old.). She refuses to come in at night and patrols the perimeter or lays by the pen. It is So cute. When we took the Buckos off she walked SO dejectly away from us- but when we drove up with the girls- and she heard their bleating- OH BOY did she perk right up!!
They are already filling out a bit- they weigh 14 & 15 lbs. And since they were the smallest in the pen of many- they weren’t quite so sure about not having to scrabble for food , but are settling right in!
Gave them a bath yesterday to get ready for Kayla tonight- can’t Wait to see her reaction and for her to name them. Something unique I’m sure!
We have broken ALL records for heat today- 108- the previous record was 70 years old at 106. And it’s supposed to continue 3 digits at least until weekend. And I was complaining about the 90’s last week.
At least there’s no fires going locally right now!
